Global Fayre and Fair Trade

Buying Fair Trade has always been important to us. After our youngest daughter was born, we wanted to find something that we could do together, something that we believed in and that would benefit the wider, global community. We also shared a love of artisan products from Asia, Africa and South America, and so it was a natural choice for us to launch Global Fayre, with the mission of bringing Fair Trade products to southwest Missouri.

We’ve been careful from the start to trade only with companies that are registered with the Fair Trade Federation and IFAT or that have products certified by organizations such as TransfairUSA; it is critical for us to be confident that the people making the products and growing the food are receiving a fair wage, and that the funds coming in to their communities are being used to raise their standard of living.

It’s also important to us that we bring our customers only the best product, whether it is a silk scarf from a village in India or the finest coffee beans from Ethiopia.

What Fair Trade means to us:

Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers

Transparency and accountability; dealing fairly and respectfully with trading partners

Capacity building; helping to develop producers’ independence

Payment of a fair price

Gender equity

A safe and healthy working environment for producers.

Better environmental practices and the application of responsible methods of production.
